trimming allowance Explanation: All your terms should be in the following reference: An additional allowance must be added to the foredge, head and tail as trimming allowance on bound-in inserts which are maximum product size. www.newscom.net/southernprint/insertspecs.html Also see this website for some useful printing terminology (no Nachfalz, though...) Beschnitt [trim(ming), trim-off] meist Bildteile, die über das Endformat hinaus gedruckt und bei der Endfertigung abgeschnitten werden (verhindert Blitzer am Seitenrand) http://members.chello.at/wpotocnik/knod web/lexikon/body.htm "Cropping" is also a printing term that I've often run across. However, I found only one instance of "cropping allowance" No extra cost for bleed-off advertisements. 1/1 page bleed-off is 210 x 297 mm + 4 mm cropping allowance www.elinstallatoren.com/annons/engelsk/eng_priser.htm but some 16 or so for "trimming allowance", and the Southern Print website seemed to be the most promising. comment Explanation: Just to confrim uel's answer -- a Google search with 'foredge + head" + tail + trimming' gives lots of hits. Clearly, in printer's terminology 'head' = top edge, 'tail' = bottom edge and 'foredge' = outside edge of a page. Cropping is not correct here - it refers to cutting off part of a picture. If a picture is printed 'bled', which means that it extends past the finished dimensions of the page, it will naturally be cropped when the page is trimmed to the final size. |
