You're correct - it's a typo Explanation: There's no such thing as a "Kreuzungselter", but if you tack an "n" on the end, you get the correct word and it means precisely what you think it does. Cross-parent or hybridization parent are what you ought to choose. HTH, Will |

cross-parent or "mate" Explanation: The Science Dictionary by Louis DeVries-Leon Jacolev states: Kreuzungspartner = mate, one of the parents in crossing. And Elter is an old form for one of the parents Perhaps that will help you? Good luck |

cross parent Explanation: How original of me! You mentioned you were having trouble confirming "cross parent" or at least finding the German term anywhere. If it helps, the Norther Light search engine yielded 8 items for the combo +"cross parent" +barley. The one below is a plant breeding appendix. As for "Kreuzungselter," check out http://www.beerenstark.de/wissen/resist.html, which clearly shows the term being used in the same context. Cross-breeding parent Explanation: Who says Elter doesn't exist? It is listed in Collins as the singular of Eltern, e.g. clearly a parent. Kreuzung is cross-breeding. |
