German term or phrase: Stickstoffblasen
Stickstoffblasen oft defekt
I know Stickstoff is nitrogen but I don't see how 'nitrogen bubbles' (?) can be defective. This is a problem with a tractor. Is it something to do with a faulty hydraulic system maybe? How can I translate the above?

Explanation:
You weren't far off the mark with your original guess. It seems there is a kind of suspension system known as 'hydrogas suspension' that uses nitrogen gas. This system is described with accompanying diagrams at http://ferrari.me.queensu.ca/dynamics/topics/hydrogas.html,w... the system is said to use:
nitrogen gas as the springing medium and hydraulic fluid pressure drop as the damping mechanism.
Now you weren't far off with 'nitrogen bubble'. If you look at the diagrams, you will see that this suspension system includes spheres filled with nitrogen, and remember that 'Blase' in German also means 'bladder' then we find that 'nitrogen bladder' produces a lot of search engine hits at sites related to suspension systems. To quote one example at http://store.yahoo.com/azmotorsports/progsus420se.html 'Internal nitrogen bladder eliminates need for remote reservoir'.

Explanation:
I think this has something to do with the shocks.
I couldn't find an English term yet, but under Ride Control I did get a lot of hits related to shocks for various vehicle types.
Maybe this will help you further!
