German term or phrase: Gabelbrücke (deluxe moutain bike -- urgent)
In a list of components of a high-end ($ 6000) mountain bike (bicycle - Porsche Bike FS Evolution). (The term Gabelbrücke also occurs in motor cycles). [[A photo shows the rear fork connecting to a tube that continues straight toward the upper forward point of the frame triangle. (The saddle assembly is supported by a cantilevered bar extending rearward from that tube). ]]

fork crown
Explanation:
I found the following description of suspension forks. Maybe it's a fork crown you are looking for? Here goes:"The stanchion tubes are connected to the rest of the bicycle by the fork crown and the steerer tube, which runs up inside the head tube
of the frame of the bicycle. " supported by the following bike glossary:http://sheldonbrown.com/gloss_cn-z.html#crown. Good luck!

Thank you both for your terrific answers! I chose Johanna's after long waffling because of the excellent cycle glossary (http://sheldonbrown.com/gloss_cn-z.html#crown ) and because I can perhaps make it up to Leipzig in more kooky tractor terms. :) Merry Christmas! Tom

Crown

Explanation:
Hello Tom,
Looking at the Gabelbruecke at these sites (http://www.ktm-at-bvz.de/zubehoer/gabelbruecke.htm and http://moto-spezial.de/07.html) and comparing this to a more conventional mountain bike, I found crown. It looks (more or less) like the same component.

I hope this helps some.

Hello Tom,

You find more good ideas by looking at Cannondale's homepage. I am sure you are familiar with Cannondale, but if not, they are a fairly bike maker in the US, covering the whole range from not-so-low end to high-end, custom-made bikes. The site is both in English and German (and other languages).

Good luck!
