vignetting, shading, cut-off Explanation: vignettieren (opt.) - to vignette, to shade Vignettierung - vignetting, shading, cut-off [Richter, FWB Foto, Optik, Video] It would seem, though, that "vignetting" and "vignette" are the terms most frequently used. See, for instance, You can see that vignetting was severe at f/16. Fortunately ... photo.net/photo/macro with my 20mm lens there was pronounced vignetting from the housing (example at right). ... photo.net/photo/underwater/primer with my 20mm lens there was pronounced vignetting from the housing (example at right). ... photo.net/photo/underwater/primer (from among some 3,000+ hits) HTH! |

vignetting or vignetting effects Explanation: vignetting (unwanted) is the darkening of the picture corners caused by using a poorly coordinated lens, camera construction and image area combination. In your case, with the short focal length operation (wide angle), the lens is a little too close to the image area, which reduces the amount of light that reaches the corners of the image area. vignetting (desirable, especially for portraits) is accomplished by adding a more-or-less sharp edged ring at the end of the lens to purposely darken the corners and sides of the photo, emphasizing the person's face. The same effect (either lighter or darker vignetting) can also be added later when the prints are made. HTH - Dan |
