German term or phrase: Flies
In the context of waterbeds - the wave motion control which stops a waterbed from bouncing around too much is created by means of "an extremely strong, wide meshed, water-resistant FLIES which slightly resembles a light wire sponge" (what is FLIES? I have also seen it in the construction "Watteflies", it is clearly some kind of material. Grateful for any prompt help!

Explanation:
Flies is not a typographical error; there are some 20+ sites out there that use the term.

Searching on "wave control", there were quite a few hits on "tethered wave control", which even comes in various layers. See:

This would seem to fit into your context. If you want to be especially cautious, "wave control material" should do the trick.

Yes, I thought it was a real word because it appears so many times. What's wierd is that I can find no other sources which credit it as real apart from the few sites on the web... thanks for your detailed help.

Typo for "Vlies"?

Explanation:
If it is indeed an incorrect adaptation from German (Vlies, non-woven [fabric]), then it would be Vlies in German, of course.
