I'm thinking since this is master cylinder and toothed belt tensioner are automotive in nature, Schaltsysteme refers to transmission systems??
Any input greatly appreciated.

transmission systems
Explanation:
I think you are right in your supposition. It concerns a system for conveying zork pieces, among which they list two automotive parts (toothed belt take-ups and master zylinders). Both of which have niothing to do with a switching system, which usually is electronic or lectrical in nature, or concerns computers and telecommunications. So transmission system is the only automotive aggregate that could be considered in the same class.

Seems unfair to choose the first answer that agreed with my own initial impulse, but since it was 2 to 2 on this one, I finally conferred with the engineer who wrote the document, and he said yes, these systems relate to auto transmissions. Thanks to everyone for your help, and especially to Tom for all the great references on material handling systems. I'm sure those will come in very useful!

switching functions, switching systems additional switched functions

Explanation:
switching functions, switching systems additional switched functions

Probably the term refers to adding additiononal workpiece handling functions that are controlled by switching functions. These could be provided by a PLC, PC etc. or could be proximity switches sensing the workpiece position. Another possibility is a cut-off safety switch. Attached are some URLs about this subject and the wide range of possibilities.
