German term or phrase: stoff- u. wärmedicht
context: compression (of a refrigerant)

I know wärmedicht is adiabatic, but can't find anything for stoffdicht, or for the combination.

Explanation:
1.If there is NO MATTER EXCHANGE between the system and its surroundings than it is called CLOSED.

2.If there is NO ENERGY EXCHANGE between the system and its surroundings than it is called ADIABATIC.

3.If there is NIETHER MATTER NOR ENERGY EXCHANGE between the system and its surroundings than it is called ISOLATED.

All the therms refer to thermodynamics.

I am a nuclear physics engineer but let me add a piece of text on the Second Law of thermodynamics from the web:

The second law of thermodynamics tells us that the entropy of an isolated system tends to increase with time. An isolated system is one in which matter and energy cannot enter. The earth is certainly not an isolated system because it receives a constant flow of energy from the sun. With the exception of a few meteorites and some cosmic dust, the earth is however a CLOSED system when it comes to matter. The order (entropy) in a CLOSED BUT NOT ISOLATED system can be maintained over time, but only if there is an external source of energy (Figure 3). Thus it is ultimately the energy of the sun which has allowed highly ordered and complex, organisms and civilizations to develop on earth.

so

...stoff- und warmedichten systemm = ..closed and adiabatic system / isolated system

Good luck.
