German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering
German term or phrase: beaufschlagen
This relates to a vacuum filter for woodworking machines:
Die Späneabscheidung erfolgt über außenbeaufschlagte, großflächige Filterschläuche.
Does beaufschlagt here simply mean fitted, or is there more to it?

English translation:There is more to it !
Explanation:
The translation is like this or something similar.

The wood shavings/chips are collected on the outside of large tube shaped filters.

Here is how it works:

The suction draws air through the tube shaped filters, thereby accumulating/collecting the dust/shavings/chips etc. on the outside of the filter surface. The advantage of this technology lies in the ease of the cleaning and maintenance of the filter, because it can simple be shaken to clean it or the collected dust can be blown off by reversing the vacuum and blowing pressurized air through the bag.

11 mins peer agreement (net): +1
pressurize

Explanation:
I'm not so sure that it simply means fitted; beaufschlagen in technical German often means to pressurize, and außenbeaufschlagt would be a most unusual term for externally fitted. As a vacuum is involved, my guess would be that the evacuation hoses are externally pressurized.

beaufschlagen v
apply v (to), admit v (to), pressurize

See if this makes sense within your context.

agree  xxx7hills: I agree with Ulrike. I have worked on a patent for a type of syringe (with a holder/sleeve and piston). The term "beaufschlagen" appears in 23 places (more if the noun Beaufschlagung is counted) and consistently means: to "load" or "fill".

admit

Explanation:
Beaufschlagung is defined by Ernst as "admission" and is a term used in water turbines. <Charliea> is not all that wrong though. "The removal of chips proceeds over large surface filter tubes that are attached (admitted from) to the outside".
