German to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general)
German term or phrase: Medical: COPD, Art., VK, FEV1, BGA, pO2, RR
I am translating a hopsital discharge report and am having trouble with the following:
Under "Diagnosen" -
Infektexacerbierte COPD bei persistierendem Tabakabusus
Art. Hypertonie
What is COPD and Art.?
Under "Therapie und Verlauf" -
If anyone can wade through this ton of context, I'd really appreciate some help!!

English translation:COPD, FEV1,VK,BGA,PO2, RR, also Soll
Explanation:
COPD = chronic obstructive pulmonary disease / FEV1 = forced expiratory volume in one second / VK = vital capacity / PO2 = partial pressure of oxygen, oxygen tension / BGA = blood gas analysis / RR = Riva-Rocci (type of sphygmomanometer, and method of blood pressure measurement using it)
Note: you didn't ask, but it might be helpful to know that "Soll(wert)" = reference value or predicted value.
These are all terms from respiratory medicine, which is my field. For definitions you might like to look at my Web medical glossary (URL below)

chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Explanation:
The above is COPD, according to Louis deSousa, Common Medical Abbreviations. FEV1 (subscript 1) is forced expiratory volume in one second. pO2 (subscipt 2) is partial pressure of oxygen.RR has a number of meanings, one is respiratory rate.
Art. - Pschyrembel Klinisches Wörterbuch lists arterielle as one type of Hypertonie.
You wrote BGA in one place and VGA in the other. Couldn't find either. Bunjes lists VK as Vitalkapazitaet. Good luck

Art.= arterial, pO2=partial oxygen pressure, RR=blood pressure

Explanation:
Sorry, cannot help with all of them, but with the other answer you got a lot translated anyway. The FEV1 must be an exhalation volume of sorts. As for the VGA, did you mean that or the BGA as in your summary line?
Cheerio,

Explanation:
I can only confirm and add a little to what ASherwin wrote, based on Medical Dictionary English-German German-English by Christine and Peter Reuter Thieme Verlag ISBN 3-13-100471-1 and 3-13-100491-6.

COPD: ASherwin is right.
Art. = Art. aerterielle = arterial
VK = ASherwin is right plus: VC Vtalkapazität = vital capacity
FEV1 ASherwin is right.
BGA = BGA Blutgasanalyse = Blood gas analysis
pO2 ASherwin is right.
RR = RR = BP = Blutdruck = blood pressure measured by the Riva-Rocci method
