An outside-connection is a type of socket, it's a technical term. Machines that are equipped with so called 'outside-connections' make it possible to connect several machines in a row/particular order. I.e: if a phone rings and will not be picked up the answering machine will be activated. In your text it means that because of the fact that the machine has an outside-connection, the product parts are handed to the machine in synchronized order. As a result the English sentence becomes too long also. The text of the german sentence is confusing and one really has to think about what is being meant with it. It took me a long time to figure out how to put it in English and I'm not quite happy with it yet, but it's the best I can do.
