I am having trouble with the first part of this, describing the design of the discharge belt. What material are the catches made of (Tropfenblech) and what are they trying to say about the spaces between the lands?
Any help much appreciated. TIA, Beth

Explanation:
1. Tropfenblech -- not sure, but I suspect it's patterned-surface sheet metal (non-slip). Only two Google hits for the term, and only one apparently relevant to your context -- but you can't actually learn much from the site.

2. Lochblech = perforated sheet metal.

3. The maximum allowable gap between the Mitnehmer (I'm pretty sure that this should be 'carrier' here) and the Seitenbegrenzung ('side guards') is 2 mm. (presumably so nothing falls through or gets caught in the gap).

There's what looks like a good site for your topic -- see the second ref -- but it's presently off the air and the Google cached version doesn't have the pictures (damn!).

Thanks very much Ken - I was apparently too mired in all of this to see straight anymore -- your explanations make sense of it again! And thanks too for the web references.
