German term or phrase: Endgeräte-Auswahlziffer
a telephone number within a customer's range. Should not be confused with a company's extension number.
Jayne White
Local calling number
Explanation:
If it is a number within the customer's calling range, then this is very likely what it is. It could also perhaps be a number within the toll-free calling area.

Terminal selection code (or number)

Explanation:
Since Endgerät = terminal, my suggestion is "Terminal selection code (or number)". See Ferretti: WB der Elektronik, Datentechnik und der Telekommunikation for the first part, anyhow. HTH Wolfgang

terminal equipment selection number/digit

Explanation:
Endgeräte-Auswahlziffer = terminal equipment selection number/digit

Wörterbuch der Daten- und Kommunikationstechnik – Brinkmann – Brandstetter agrees pretty closely with Wolfgang and Ferretti

Device Designator

Explanation:
"Endgeräte" are usually the different devices connected to a PBX (Br. PABX),
a private (automatic) branch exchange.

The Auswahlziffer would then be a one-digit numeric code used to distinguish between different devices.

How you put that together in a sentence depends on what the German sentence looks like (it would have been helpful to have had more context). It is often acceptable to leave out some of the information contained in the highly descriptive German compounds, especially when they are repeated.
