One possible defect on a roll of paper from a paper machine is a "Glanzstelle" - a shiny spot. One no-context source gives the translation of "shiner" but I can find zero evidence for this and zero relevant web hits...

I have found both shiny spots and shiners, but alas, they do not refer to the paper manufacturing. However, take a look at:
