|German term or phrase: Fehlerspeicherung, U|
anybody out there?
I need help with the translation of the term 'Fehlerspeicherung'.
The only translation I found is of 'Fehlerspeicher'= 'Fault memory'.
I now cant make up my mind whether to use 'Fault memory' or 'Fault storage',
because the actual translation of 'speicherung' is 'storage'.......
Another question is, in electronics, does the German abbrevation, or symbol, 'U'stand for Voltage (as well as 'Umdrehungszahl')?
Any suggestions most appreciated!
"fault memory" yielded some 470+ hits on Google, "fault storage" yielded some 90+ hits.
See some examples:
The CD/Radio/VCS all has a fault memory that the dealers can read out - so they
can probably work out whats wrong pretty easily. ...
NOTE: The ignition should not be turned off after doing this full throttle test road test or after the "No Start" cranking test is done, as the fault memory may be erased.
This Diagnostic Function is extreamly powerful as it interrogates the chosen vehicle systems' ECU for fault codes that it has stored in its Fault Code Memory. These faults are detected by the vehicle system itself when it performs a self diagnostic test which it does when the vehicles ignition is turned on and at regular intervals thereafter. The vehicle system then logs the fault by storing it in its Fault Code memory. Depending on how serious any fault that may have been detected is, the vehicle system may also cause the vehicle systems fault warning lamp to come on. If the ROVACOM system finds any stored codes, it then gives its operator a summary list of any stored fault codes' meanings. The operator can then also print this list out. Reading the fault codes allows the operator to quickly identify where a failure lies, as determined by the vehicle system itself. Some vehicle systems are very sophisticated and thorough with their built in self diagnostic tests, having over one thousand possible fault codes, each with a different meaning. The ROVACOM then informs its operator that the gems has a fault stored in it of "Fuel Temperature sensor value currently out of expected range (TooHigh)" or if it has been ok some time and not others it would report "Fuel Temperature sensor value out of expected range (TooHigh) (Intermittant)".

Primary backup is through a fully mirrored storage system. Our current servers RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) 5.0 compliant which allows hot swapping of up to two drives from a five drive set without service interruption. This method minimizes any service downtime and protects against fault storage.
This family of controllers is designed to perform with a standard series motor. Using the latest in solid-state MOSFET technology, the H series controllers feature: high frequency operation, microprocessor logic, digital adjustment, diagnostics and fault storage.

As for your other question, I have never seen U used as an abbreviation/symbol for Voltage; acc. to Duden, WB der Abkürzungen, U could also stand for Umformer (among many other things) - would that make sense in your context?

Storage of Errors
I am very confident that we are not talking about damaged memory in this context (as a symptom of "Fehlspeicherung") but rather a way of storing errors (error protocol). That would be "Storage of errors"
