pipeline stations Explanation: It all comes down to what you think that the author is referring to. A gas station in US English is a filling station, where you can fill the gas (petrol) tank of your car. However, I doubt that gas leak detectors are normally used in such stations, and besides, I think that author is talking about (natural) gas rather then petrol.
