German term or phrase: Verursachungsprinzip
Description of Voraussetzungen für ein erfolgreiches sich selbst tragendes Independent Power Producer. Alongside points such as "flexibility", "market knowledge" etc, is "Verursachungs- und verantwortungskonforme Risiko- und Chancenverteilung (Anreizsysteme nach dem Verursachungsprinzip" CAN ANYONE HELP WITH THIS SENTENCE? Is the final word just "principle of causation"? But I can find no ref. to this. Appreciate any suggestions not just on the word, but on the sentence too! Thanks in advance!

polluter-pays principle, pay-as-you-pollute prinicple

Explanation:
This is the standard term - pretty self-explanatory!

A suggestion for the sentence:

Distribution of risk and opportunity in accordance with cause and responsibility (incentive system along the lines of the pay-as-you-pollute principle).

principle of causality

Explanation:
Sorry about the typos above. Here it is again without typos:

Verursachungsprinzip = "principle of causality"

Verursacherprinzip = "polluter pays principle", "pay-as-you-pollute principle", which is very environment-oriented.

Good luck,

Steve Martin

Vesna's answer

Explanation:
Sorry Vesna,
while you are perfectly right when talking about legal responsibility, your answer is absolutely wrong with regard to "Anreizsysteme" (motivation systems), where the originator of the order or business gets the bonus. This has nothing to do with liability etc.

Whzen they are talking of rsik with regard to the motivation system, it is the risk of not getting the bonus, and that everyone should have an equal chance.
