Tech/Engineering
German term or phrase: Einstellfehler, Sollmass
(What is the Einstellfehler, and what is the difference between Steuerung und Regelung here?)///Another problem sentence: Geben Sie die Massabweichung des Meisterteils zum späteren Sollmass ein. Positiver Wert = Meisterteil ist groesser als Sollmass. (it's the zum...eingeben part I can't get my mind around. Can anyone shed any light?) TIA, Beth

Explanation:
From the given context Einstellfehler seems to be "adjusting error" or "setting error". Siemens Fachwb Ind. Elektrotechnik, Energie und Automatisierungstechnik confirms this, but also offers "Permissible setting error". Unfortunately, I am not an automation specialist, but I have translated many texts where both Regelung and Steuerung occurred. I was fortunate enough however to have been able to consult an electrical engineer who specialized in this field. His explanation was as follows: Steuerung is an open-loop control system whereas Regelung is a closed-loop control system. My Siemens dictionary offers for Regelung: feedback control (system) [ref: IEC50(351)]. Unfortunately, I could not find anything in the Internet offering a better or more indepth explanation. Sollmass is usually a specified dimension/parameter, but in this context I am not sure about the relation zum spaeteren ... eingeben. I hope that I was able to help alittle!!!

Explanation:
I agree with the previous poster regarding the difference Regelung and Steuerung, and here is my suggestion: "In order for the sensor to yield accurate measurements it must be adjusted [in such a way that it/] to operate[s] in the center of its range. Using this adjustment [function] the error margin is calculated so that the control mechanism can align the parts accurately."
"Enter the deviation of the master part from the specification."
I had to adjust a densitometer in a similar way once, so this sounds familiar.
Cheerio,
