production/synthesis medium/mixture Explanation: I think you should understand "Herstellungsmittel" ie the medium or mixture in which adding some additive (Zusatz) controls the final porosity properties of the end product. own comprehension |

additive [to control the physical condition of a material] Explanation: For what it's worth, the context in the URLs I checked out seems to suggest many different types of Stellmittel, (see below), with the common denominator that they are a conditioner/additive to control the physical condition (e.g viscosity, workability) or behavior e.g. (thixotropy, hardening) of a material. For additive in general, my dictionaries list the German terms Additiv or Zusatzmittel. In some contexts, there is the term Hilfsmittel. Stellmittel translates as _adulterant, (standardizing agent)_ in deVries-Herrman, ISBN 07 016631 on Google: Searched English pages for stellmittel OR stellmitteln OR stellmittels. "Sour grapes" ... Explanation: First off, I am not competing for KudoZ points, but this particular question/answer reflects a typical and ever-increasing problem of proz.com: one member posts an answer, and a second comes along, repeats the former's answer (maybe adds a few more, often unnecessary, links, info, etc.) and gets the points. I suggest a change in the programming of this site: if an answer has already been posted, then the exact same wording should not be allowed in subseqent postings. The bottom line is: it is only those that will "kill" for points that have no "real-world" qualifications and therefore depend on these points. |

"Sour grapes" Explanation: I would concur with CTrans - since I've noticed some people have stopped doing the kudoz thing because of this. To wit:judicious meting out of points is optimistically hoped for, and kudoz are touted as representative of your qualification, but it doesn't boil down to that. It's simply feedback being very roughly measured. Somehow--on the URL link issue--I'm reminded of a photocopier repair person spilling the guts of your Xerox machine across the office floor to then say, "Here, this is the correct reset button." Whereas the button was already pointed out minutes before. Let's mine in dictionaries and the Web, then present the nuggets with an URL or one or two lines, but not paste in so very much. Please...:-) My 2 cents. |
