German term or phrase: Registerfahne
The page shows a screen shot from Windows. The instruction below reads "entsprechende Registerfahne (gekennzeichnet mit rotem Kreuz) activieren).

The only two things with 'X's look like what are usually described as tabs, so I am inclined to call this thing a tab. Yet Brinkmann does not have the term "Registerfahne." Any suggestions?

English translation:tab
Explanation:
I think it is a tab all right. Flag would be all right in a book.

Tab seems correct to me also. This refers to what is actually displayed on the screen and the screen shot shows what I have been used to calling a tab.

I think "banner" would be the better term, you read it on the net every day.

Registry Flag

Explanation:
"Flag" is the term that describes a boolean variable, which can be either active or inactive.

The "Register" in question is most likely the Windows System Registry,
where a flag has been set active (changes have been made, a function has
been activated).
