German term or phrase: Heissabzug and Kaltabzug
I thought these are cold and hot transfer processes, done by ironing at different temperatures.
These two sentences made me wonder wether "-abzug" is the actual removal/pulling off of the backing or paper in the cold or hot state.

English translation:hot and cold transfer
Explanation:
It is still the hot and cold transfer. The paper is probably put there to absorb the extra dye. I have heard Americans call such a thing decal, where you have to pull off the backing, though in that case they were PVC stickers.

Explanation:
Something similar to this happened to me once. After the hot transfer and cold backing removal process, the colors were flat and powerless. The shop attendant then laid a piece of lint-free white paper on the transfer area of the T-shirt, used the same heat press, quickly pulled off the paper, and lo and behold, the colors were bright and intensive. The catch was that the trick with the white paper had to be repeated after every washing. In the shop the attendant used the original transfer backing paper again for the second step, at home we used sandwich-wrapping paper.

"Graphics are normally/usually applied onto the desired textile/cloth/material, for example, a T-shirt, by a hot pressing and (preferably) cold backing removal application process and if necessary, fixed using a hot pressing and hot removal process."
