Tech/Engineering
German term or phrase: Spritzschutz / Spritzschutzmanschette
These terms appear in a document about leaking pipes and are the solution to stop the leak from spraying everywhere. Ernst gives splash guard for Spritzschutz and packing for Manschette but I'm not sure about either of these translations. As far as I can tell we're actually talking about plastic that is tied around the pipe.

Explanation:
Splash guard is fine and for Spritzschutzmanschette I would suggest "splash guard sleeve." Ernst is one of the best dictionaries out there, so one of the best reasons anyone can offer to believe it is that it's listed in its pages. Ernst aside, however, one of my major clients is a huge piping systems manufacturer, and th "splash guard" is the term their American and British subsidiaries use. HTH, Will

spray or leakage containment collars/tubing/shields

Explanation:
I hope I do not make you folks angry with my perpetually late answers, but I can't go for "Splash guard" here. I am sure Ernst meant a deflector or guard for liquid splashing up because it first fell down or because something else fell down in it. That would not fit your context because your author is concerned about liquid spraying out from leaks in his piping system. I think spray or leakage containment collars/tubing/shields would be more appropriate. What do you think of that? - Dan
