German term or phrase: ausblenden
Ein Lichtwellenleitersystem das die Lichtleitfunktion moeglichst unterstuetzt und mit dem Licht laengs des translatorischen Verlaufs des Lichtleiters ausgeblendet werden kann, mit moeglichst hohen Anteilen quer zur Lichtleiterachse

I have problems with "ausblenden", finding the correct English term, as in this case the emission of a fraction of the guided light through the sides of the optical waveguide is an intended function.

Even though I have the feeling that either the wrong German word was used in the original, or that none of the possible/existing English translations convey the actual intended use for the optical waveguide in the application, this is nevertheless the most helpful answer.

Thank you,
Andrea Schneider
