German term or phrase: Muster- vs. Standard
A testing protocol for endoscopes compares a "Muster-" with a "Standard-" ... the Muster- vs. Standard- can be an "-instrument" a "-shaft" or a "-gerät". Any ideas how to translate this "Muster-" without using the word "sample?"

Thanks very much!

model vs standard
Explanation:
model is according to my experience THE variant of a product against which you measure the conformity to an approval given by a body of some kind (government agency)
As far as I know you often use specimen for the sam purpose although many us specimen as a synonym for 'sample'
