Tech/Engineering
German term or phrase: Tischnetzteil
This is a label on a compact transformer mounted in a metal housing.
Michael Dollman
English translation:Desktop charging unit
Explanation:
Tisch - table, bench, desktop
Netzteil - power supply, charger
If you are dealing with a portable unit of any kind (wireless telephone, portable tool, calculator, measuring device), the device usually contains rechargeable batteries and the storage facility with a cord to a nearby AC receptacle (use plug in mains only in the UK) serves as a battery charger.

plug mains unit

Explanation:
I should point out that I don't pretend to be a technical expert, but "plug mains unit" appeared several times for "Tischnetzteil" in the English version of the website mentioned below. HTH!

Explanation:
The only difference I can see at this site:

http://profitec-shop.de/Stromversorgungen/Netzgerate_stabili... -

between a Tischnetzteil and a Steckernetzteil is the output capacity and sometimes but not always size. I do not think the "Tisch" or "Netz" part is important, but when you think about it the whole German name is not too brilliant either. !!Table mains part!! I declare!

One of these things came with my IBM laptop and IBM just called it an "AC Adapter" Ferretti calls a Netzteil a mains power supply. Herbert Schultz, Computer-Englisch says it is a power supply unit. Ernst says network/mains power pack or power supply or power unit. Brinkmann, Data Systems and Communications Dictionary uses power pack.

If I were to be allowed to undo 30+ years of poor name giving, I would say "power converter" or "mains conversion unit" or "mains transformer unit", but I am not, so one of the choices in the paragraph above might be less dangerous.
