Tech/Engineering
German term or phrase: Vorlegierung/Nachlegierung
sorry, not too much context, other than it is metallurgical

I am tempted to use pre-alloying and subsequent alloying, but have only very spare google hits for that -- has anyone run across these terms before?

Thanks to you both for good suggestions. I liked intermediate and master alloy, but they don't work quite as well for the verb form (and I'm not sure which is meant). Also based on the google hits I received they seemed to have more specific definitions. So I decided to go with pre- and subsequent alloying. Thanks again!

intermediate / master alloy

Explanation:
Beth,

Does your context suggest whether we are talking a process or an object?

The above is what Ernst has for 'vorlegierung', in case it is of any use ... unfortunately it doesn't have anything for 'nachlegierung'

Master alloy seems to get quite a few hits - maybe you could find the other term from one of those ...

FWIW
