You can do a search for "Meistername" on this page. When reading this I understood all of a sudden: in the artworld there is a preference for big artist's names. So, "meistername" would be "artist's name". Often, theorists and philosophers come up with new words, so that would account for why you never heard of it. Thanks anyway!

according to my Google search, this term is still used. In the olden days that was the name for craftsmen of the highest rank. Meister is the highest rank for a craftsman. They were well-known for some trades like organ design, violin making, furniture making, etc.
A suggestion for the title: Fetischismus der Kuenstlernamen

Collectors have been known who would buy a worm eaten piece of furniture for the craftsman's name on it.
