Es wurden einige 1000 ha an Mais eingeackert, aber nur 118 Packungen beanstandet. Ist das nicht in der Relation völlig überzogen? Any Austrians out there?

bags / packets
Explanation:
I'm Bavarian, Kim, and I worked for the Austrian Consulate and many of my friends are Austrian ...

There is no other meaning for Packungen, but, if we don't know the weight of the 'Packungen' and therefore how much area the 'Saatgut' contained in one bag would cover, ...

I'm not a farmer, but I know some. Any seed packet, that can be physically handled, would cover less than 100 square meters, I'm sure.

Einige 1000 ha? That's more than a couple but less than 10?

The NUR/ONLY/MERE sounds right to me.

Thank you ooshi. I thought maybe Packungen was an Austrian term for land parcels or something. But now I see that packages or bags of seed is what is meant. I guess it must be bags because the discussion is about farmers not gardeners.
