German term or phrase: Whole sentence
"Der Tradition des Gasthofs entsprechend ist das Haus
mit der urtümlichen Schieferfassade ländlich gehalten." I'm not sure how to translate this. I've got a couple of possibilities but am not sure about either: 1)In accordance with its tradition, the inn with the
original slate facade is kept country-like.
2)In accordance with the tradition of rural inns, the natural slate façade has been retained.

The context is a hotel guide. TIA.

English translation:In keeping with the tradition, the guest house has retained its original, country-style slate facade
Explanation:
It's a bit of a mouthful really.

Not sure whether to have the 'the' in front of tradition or not, I suppose it depends on whether its a specific tradition or tradition in general.

HTH anyway

Thank you Mary, I very much appreciate your taking the time to help me, I think you've got it just right! I'm sorry if other people feel that my asking for an opinion on the possibilities I had was unreasonable but as we all know, no-one is obliged to answer a Kudoz question. I have spent considerable time looking into this and working on it - I am sure that we all occasionally get stuck with the way to phrase something, when we have been working on it for a long time. I merely asked for some input from my peers and certainly never meant to offend anyone. Thanks again Mary, maybe some day I'll be able to return the favour.
