German term or phrase: Gitterbett
Hier ist der Kontext, für all diejenigen, die auf Kontext bestehen. Wir sprechen von der Ausstattung eines Gästezimmer, u.a. ist es möglich ein Bett in Form eines Gitterbetts zuzustellen.

Erklärung: Ein Gitterbett ist ein für Kleinkinder, and it is not a crib.

Is there a special word in English or can it be translated as toddler bed? Perhaps we can completely forget about the idea that they the kids are caged in like monkeys...

agree  Kim Metzger: Strictly British English - a crib in US English. http://www.thekidswindow.co.uk/html/index2.asp?region=UK&pag...

agree  Armorel Young: A toddler bed would simply be a small ordinary bed; a cot has high sides (bars/Gitter) all round; a crib to my UK ears is for babies - it's a lot smaller than a cot and doesn't have the high sides.

agree  Vere Barzilai: cot, usually you can slide both sides of the bed down (lengthwise)
