Dies zum einen, war das Palais du Luxembourg zum anderen aber auch um dieselbe Zeit Schauplatz einer der bedeutsamsten staatsallegorischen Historienmalerei auf die Ehe und Regentschaft Heinrichs IV. und Marias von Medici – des sog. Medici-Zyklus‘ von Peter Paul Rubens, der um 1625 nach endlosen Programmdisputen, u.a. auch mit Beteiligung Richelieus, abgeschlossen war. Zur Vollendung besuchte Rubens zum letzten Mal Paris.
