Explanation:
Neapolitanerschnitte erfunden

1898 kreierte Josef Manner eine neuartige Waffel, die "Neapolitaner Schnitte Nro. 239", zu Ehren des 50-jährigen Regierungsjubiläums von Kaiser Franz Joseph. Neapolitaner Schnitte wurde sie deshalb genannt, weil die Haselnüsse damals noch aus der Gegend um Neapel kamen. An der Rezeptur hat sich freilich nur wenig geändert. Damals wie heute besteht die Manner-Schnitte aus fünf Waffellagen und vier Lagen Haselnusscreme. Süßer Duft über Hernals Wenn die berühmten Schnitten gebacken werden, steigt einem in Hernals der unverkennbare Duft von Schokolade und Nüssen in die Nase. Denn in der Wilhelminenstrasse liegt eine der drei Manner-Fabriken in Österreich.
