A expressão “Pensamento Lateral” criada por Edward de Bono representa uma abordagem sistemática ao pensamento criativo, fazendo uso de técnicas que podem ser utilizadas de forma deliberada. As ferramentas desta abordagem são baseadas diretamente no comportamento do cérebro humano: o comportamento das redes neurais. O Dr. de Bono apresentou o comportamento auto-organizável das redes neurais no seu livro “O Mecanismo da Mente” em 1969. Posteriormente publicou também o livro “I Am Right You Are Wrong”, obtendo o reconhecimento internacional pelo seu trabalho.
