Bei Maßbeschichtungen, z.B. für Paßmaße, muß sowohl das Fertigmaß als auch das Vorbearbeitungsmaß vom Konstrukteur festgelegt werden. Das Vorbearbeitungmaß ist das Maß, welches das Bauteil vor der Beschichtung aufweist. Dieses ist so festzulegen, daß nach Aufbringen der Schicht das Fertigmaß eingehalten werden kann. Tab. 13 zeigt anhand von Bohrung und Welle den Zusammenhang zwischen Vorbearbeitungsmaß, gewünschter Schichtdicke und Fertigmaß.

Um das gewünschte Fertigmaß zu erhalten, muß bei Wellen das Vorbearbeitungsmaß um die doppelte Schichtdicke vermindert und bei Bohrungen erhöht werden. Die Schichdickentoleranz muß ebenfalls doppelt berücksichtigt werden.
Bei verchromten Bauteilen müssen Übergangs- und Preßpassungen vermieden werden. In der Regel ist eine Paarung G7/f7 ausreichend. Für höhere Ansprüche sind auch J6/f7 (vorwiegend) und K6/f7 möglich.
