stagnos - covered writing Explanation: For all non-Classics swots, Steganos is Ancient Greek for covered writing, a way of sending messages that are only readable by the recipient. The Greeks would shave the head of a slave, tattoo a message on his dome, let his hair grow back and send him off to a receiver, who would be ready with the clippers. No, really! In a PC context, steganography is the art of hiding information by embedding a message in another, seemingly harmless message. It works by replacing redundant data in ordinary files (audio or graphics files are particularly suited). That's what Steganos does, though its functionality has grown over the years to encompass a number of other security features. http://www.internet-magazine.com/reviews/security/steganos.a... |
