Explanation:
The pantun is made up of two parts: the first two lines (first couplet) is the 'sampiran' or 'pembayang' while the third and fourth lines (second couplet) is called the 'isi' (content) or 'maksud' (meaning). The Pembayang merely provides a preamble that may have no relation at all to the Maksud. Yet, it is vital in establishing the basis for the rhythm of the whole pantun. The essence of the pantun is actually contained in the second half of the pantun.

All forms of poetry consist of two parts: sampiran and content. Sampiran are the first two lines, often associated with nature (characterizing the agrarian culture of the community supporters), and usually have no connection with the second part that conveys the purpose other than to deliver the rhyme.
