I know this could be describing a statue of the winged Venus, but (should this be the case)I cannot see how it relates to the context here.

It seems from this reference that the premio Moretto presents the winner with a winged Victory award and not a Venus. In that case I understand it to mean that the artist was at the prize giving ceremony as a special guest and presented the statuette to the winner of that year's contest.

Well if it is the Moretto Award there seems to be a Winged Victory but no Venus.
