Italian term or phrase: asse attrezzato
I am having some difficulty making out what "asse attrezzato" means in this case. I have seen references to things such as highways and such but this looks like an enterred pipeline of suchs. The sentence is talking about a power plant which is linked to the "terminale carbonifero" some 13 kilometers away.

I due tecnici hanno spiegato perfettamente come l’impianto di Cerano sia collegato al terminale carbonifero di Costa Morena, attraverso un imponente asse attrezzato, completamente chiuso, come in trincea e che si sviluppa per una lunghezza di ben 13 km.

This is what it actually is (see refs below). "Rolled into one" would seem to fit the journalistic style of the piece. An asse attrezzato can be anything from a road to railway line to this. I think any near literal attempt to translate it (equipped route) will communicate little, so call it what it is.

As for this part "completamente chiuso, come in trincea" I think you have three possibilities: 1) "buried, as in a trench" 2) "underground" because it seems much like a cut and cover tunnel. 3) "completely enclosed as in a trench".

In my experience "asse" is a generic which doesn't have an equivalent in English and you always have to find out what it is (a road, railway...) to translate it with a less generic term. What about baptising it with something simple like the "Cerano Fuel Line".

Notes to answerer
Asker: I spoke to an Enel engineer who actually worked at the plant and he showed me on the coumputer (using Google maps) that it is actually both a road way, next to a conveyer system and a piple line which is sunk below the ground level (much like an underpass) As this is a coined express we would have to come up with a coined expression ourselves in English.
