I don't know if you can find some interisting terms in the text below.

Definition of the third sector

European Union defines the third sector on terms of economy: 'social economy' encompasses co-operatives, mutual companies, associations and foundations. These entities are defined according to the very principles that distinguish them from the private and public sectors: co-operation, solidarity, self-help, voluntarism, independence, democracy and non-profitability. In the United States, the corresponding term for the third sector is in fact non-profit- sector. Also the terms 'civil society' and 'welfare mix' have been used to describe this segment of society. What all these definitions have in common is regarding the third sector as the field of those non-profit- institutions that involve civil activity and have an official status of some degree. (Jarva 1998, Nylund 1998)
