Hi Mary, there is nothing wrong with your suggestion, although in English the imperfect past (imperfetto) often tends to sound more natural than the passato prossimo. I think your suggestion of "proceedings" may be more suitable for something like court cases or board of directors/shareholders' meetings.
This is a press conference so to me session sounds a little more informal.
