in-house software Explanation: "d'ufficio" can mean "in-house" (besides its other legal meanings which can be discounted in this context, I would say). If we are talking about researchers, it's probably quite likely that they have had to develop their own software for their own very special purposes (as it may not have been economic for commercial software companies to do so if the market is very narrow).
