To whittle away is what you do to the wood you don't want when you sharpen a stick or make a wood carving.
Disintegrating is perhaps a shade more than "degenerazione" and "whittling a way" a slower (but maybe surer more painful) process.
Personally as a free lance teacher and now full time translator, I've never been lucky enough to have any, but there you go :-).

: like the verbalisation, but protections as a plural? Forms of protection? Yep, mine too, but the weight of usage is clearly on your side, so growing a tough skin looks like the best option!
