this is a term in a list of processes for leather working with machinery. I have no other context. I have found it on the net but without success in finding a translation. It seems to be a common term in the sector. Maybe someone out there knows the specific English term. All help is much appreciated

La piedaggiatura misura la superficie della pelle in piedi quadri, una misura Inglese che corrisponde a 30 cm per 30 cm. Per esigenze della CEE negli ultimi otto anni il piedaggio viene fatto adottando come unità di misura il metro quadro e non più il piede quadro.
