Italian to English translations [PRO]
Medical: Pharmaceuticals
Italian term or phrase: cucchiaio da the
I'm translating a patient information leaflet for a cough medicine where the dosages are given as:
- for adults: 3-6 **cucchiai da the**
- for children: 1-4 **cucchiaini**
This is a problem as I would have translated both as "teaspoon", although I understand that in Italian, a "cucchiaio da the" is in fact larger than a "cucchiaino".
I am trying to convince the client to specify the quantity in ml to avoid possible misunderstanding, but in the meantime, does anyone know if a precise translation for the two types of spoon exists in English? Thanks, Sarah.

teaspoonfuls

Explanation:
I would use teaspoonfuls instead of teaspoons.

I am afraid I can't help you with the difference between the two types of teaspoon

Example sentence(s):
  • Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down in the most delightful way

agree  Marie-Hélène Hayles: Yes, I use teaspoons - but the problem here is the difference between cucchiaini and cucchiai da tè - it's certainly ambiguous
