Explanation:
This is an "escamotage" whereby a company "employs" an officially unemployed person (and within a certain age group) for a predefined period (I think it's 2 years at the moment). At the end of the time the person is trained and hopefully given a full-time job. In the meantime the company pays less contributions to the state for this person as they are officiallu being "trained on-the-job".
I suspect this may be an exclusively Italian thing so I would translate it as I indicate, but perhaps someone has more information.

Apprenticeship contracts are those where very specific and standard skills are acquired, especially in the manual professions. The skills acquired are specific to the job/profession rather than to the specific post.

I read some of the answers you have received but there are some mistakes. One cannot translate this terms since it deals with a specific kind of employment contract by which any person under 34 years of age (working or not) may be hired by a company for a period of either 12, 18 or 24 months during which period since the employee is, in theory at least, to be "trained" the company will receive the following benefits: 1. lower social security taxation, 2. may not reniew the employment contract after its termination. (which certain types of employment contracts, it is very difficult to fire someone in Italy). I would leave it "Contratto di Formazione Lavoro" and in parenthesis (specific Italian employment contract by which employer recived tax facilitations in order to train an employee under 34 years of age).
