L’aspetto più interessante che caratterizza in genere i nomi di luogo delle aree plurilingui, quindi anche dei territori di cui qui ci occupiamo, è rappresentato dalla polimorfia toponimica, cioè dalla coesistenza di più forme per indicare lo stesso oggetto geografico, una per ciascuna lingua presente nel territorio : qusto tratto deriva, evidentemente, dal connubio antico e alla speciale convivenza fra genti diverse, che ha caratterizzato fin dall’età antica tali territori di confine.
