Una superficie liscia sarebbe più difficilmente stampabile, perché la regolazione della pressione dei rulli inchiostratori diverrebbe molto critica; intatti si potrebbe facilmente aver l'asportazione dell'acqua di bagnatura dai contrografismi per effetto della pressione dei primi rulli inchiostratori, e di conseguenza si avrebbe il cosiddetto «asciutto di stampa»;
