Italian term or phrase: rondelle preziose
This is the name of a line of jewellery:

"Una catena e un bracciale caratterizzati da un effetto tubolare morbido grazie alla rotondità delle rondelle...."

literally, "precious rondels"....
Explanation:
...because "rondelle" is the plural noun, and "preziose" is the adjective.

The usual meaning of "rondella" is "washer," in the mechancial engineering sense: a flat, perforated metal disc, often used as a protective device in conjunction with a screw or bolt. However, because "washer" can't really be used to describe a line of jewelry/jewellery, I suggest the more archaic but much more evocative "rondel."

(Of course, there are also the Asian jade pi-discs, which look almost exactly like washers of various sizes, but are often intricately carved...)

In any case, you have "A necklace and bracelet characterized by a soft, tubular effect, thanks to the curvature of the rondels..." Not exactly scintillating advertising copy, but it does get the sense across.

Cheers, HC

Thanks...the jury's still out as to which word I'll use, but your description helped a lot. I also asked the client to fax me a photo, and they are basically "flattened rings", studded with diamonds, which is almost as exotic as "washers", so I may well end up using "rondels"! Thanks again.

Round gem.

Explanation:
Gems can be cut in different shapes: pear, round, etc. In this case I think the gem (diamond, or other) is round-cut for beauty enhancement.
