Italian to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial
Italian term or phrase: ABI / CAB
What is the official abbreviation of these in English?:
ABI - (associazione bancaria italiana/Italian bankers associations)
CAB - (banks and stock exchange analysis center)

Explanation:
I don't know if we would even have corresponding acronyms in English, but I can confirm that ABI is Associazione Bancaria Italiana. Often names of organizations aren't translated at all. You could put "Italian Banking Association" in parentheses perhaps. CAB is Codice Avviamento Bancario. I found "routing symbol" given as the English equivalent in 2 separate dictionaries (Sansoni/ Collins Italian- English dictionary; Dizio Rom;). ABI /CAB collectively are called "coordinate bancarie" in Italian, for which I imagine that we would say "bank coordinates". In any case, I hope this helps.
Very best regards,
Andréa

Explanation:
ABI + CAB are numbers that a person gives out together with his/her bank account number and bank name to have money wired into his/ her bank account. Off hand, I don't know exactly what we call these numbers in English, but I'll find out for you tonight.
Best regards,
Andréa

ABI CAB

Explanation:
Rimangono come sono anche in Inglese, perché appunto designano le specifiche di un conto bancario in Italia.

bank routing code

Explanation:
I would agree with Andrea. I have translated this expression numerous times as "bank routing code" (or "bank account co-ordinates" if the bank account number is also included) and it is used to identify a particular bank branch to ensure any money transferred to an Italian bank account gets there smoothly and without any hitches. No real equivalent exists in English so you could do as Saxo suggests although in Ireland (where I come from) each branch has what is called a "national sort code" which serves the same function.
