Algiatry is a new word suggestedi in 2003. The definition given by the American Academy of Pain Medecine is as follows:

Algiatry
Derived from the Greek words for “pain” and “medical practice,” algiatry is a new term for the medical discipline that deals with the comprehensive management of persons experiencing pain from any cause. The term was suggested in 2003 by members of the ABPM as a means of distinguishing the medical discipline of algiatry from the various other medical and related subspecialties that have been referred to as pain management. Physicians who practice algiatry are referred to as algiatrists.

agree  Joseph Tein: "Pain management" is what I thought when I saw this question ... it's the common, standard expression. I've never seen "algiatry"used in the U.S.
